In December 2001, FFL-Northern Illinois moved into its very first hangar facility since the site began operations in May of 1987.The hangar is located on the grounds of the Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry , IL . It houses flight crew and mechanic offices, pilot quarters, supplies, and has space to house and maintain an aircraft the size of a BK 117.

There is on-site fueling for the helicopter with an adjacent foam tank for fire suppression. The helipad can accommodate up to two aircraft at a time and there is an auxiliary helipad just off the Emergency Department entrance that has space for two additional aircraft as well.

The hangar has a fire detection system that is connected directly to the hospital. Daily as well as major maintenance is conducted in the hangar. A beam-mounted hoist installed in the hangar facilitates maintenance such as blade and engine changes. Equipment from inter-facility as well as pre-hospital transports is brought back to the hangar where it is then hand delivered back to the referring agency.

Completed in 1993, the FFL-Wisconsin rooftop heliport contains administrative, flight crew and mechanic offices as well as pilot quarters, supplies, and enough hangar space to house two aircraft the size of a BK 117. It is located on the 6 th floor of the Froedtert Hospital East Clinic Building . There are two banks of elevators that have a priority over-ride mechanism that allows direct access down to the trauma room or the trauma surgery suites.

The hangar facility allows daily as well as major maintenance of the aircraft to be done inside. It has a hand operated crane that enables the mechanic to perform maintenance such as an engine change on-site. It is also equipped with three different systems for fire detection well as a foam system for fire suppression. Equipment from every patient transport is brought to the hangar, cleaned, and either shipped back or hand delivered to the referring agency.

The heliport has its own fuel system that allows the helicopter to refuel on-site. The helipad is large enough to accommodate two aircraft at the same time. Its deck is heated to 50 degrees in the winter months, therefore eliminating the need for snow removal. There is a foam suppression system on the helipad that can be activated by the dispatch center in case of fire. All lift-offs and landings are monitored via video camera by dispatch thus allowing the system to be immediately engaged if necessary. The building also has a specially designed air intake system that when activated, closes for aircraft arrivals and departures
