Clinical Ride Along Shift

This program is designed to provide an observational learning experience for individuals in fields related to Healthcare and Emergency Services. This program allows Healthcare and Emergency Service providers to gain exposure and information regarding safe helicopter operations and appropriate flight criteria.

  • Active Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement Dispatchers, Air Traffic Controllers, EMS, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and relevant and licensed healthcare providers who are in FFL’s service area. Any exceptions must be approved by a member of the FFL Leadership Team.
  • Maximum Weight of 200 lbs
  • You must sign a Release of Liability, a Confidentiality Agreement for patient information, and provide emergency contact information prior to boarding the aircraft
  • Not eligible to participate during pregnancy
  • This opportunity is only available to customers who work in FFL’s primary service area
  • Photo idenification
  • Money (in the event we are out the entire shift)
  • There will be down time so please bring something to do while waiting for a flight (computer access is limited to FFL personnel only/guest WIFI is accessible via your laptop/device)
  • Your lunch and/or supper/snack
  • DO NOT BRING weapons of any kind, including knives
  • Please wear your department issued uniform, including any departmental outerwear (e.g. jacket, etc.)
  • Note: Scrubs are only appropriate in warmer weather
  • If you do not belong to an agency that supplies a uniform, please wear similar clothing, such as:
    • Dark Pants: (NO JEANS please)
    • Shirt: long- or short-sleeved shirt
    • Shoes: sturdy, hard soled shoes (LEATHER preferable); short boots that support the ankle are preferred
      • NO Gym or Athletic shoes unless they have a minimum of a 1″ sole
      • NO Clogs (this includes Nurse’s Clogs)
      • NO Sandals of any type
      • NO Slip-on shoes
  • Appropriate outerwear for the season – jacket/coat, hat, gloves (we may be able to supply you with a FFL jacket if available)
  • Add additional layers during cold weather shifts (e.g. insulated undergarments)
  • Layered natural fiber underclothing is suggested (e.g. cotton, wool, silk)
  • If you are not wearing suitable attire, you will not be able to participate

Please call our Communication Center at (414) 778-3466 two hours prior to the start of your shift to check our flight status, as we may not be flying due to weather or maintenance.

Communication Center Observation Shift

This program is designed to provide an observational learning experience for individuals in fields related to Emergency Services. This program allows emergency service providers to gain exposure and information regarding communication center operations and the process for safety dispatching an air medical helicopter.

Complete the form below to request a Communication Center Observation Shift with us. After this form is received you will be contacted to schedule your shift.

  • Active Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement Dispatchers, Air Traffic Controllers, EMS, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and relevant and licensed healthcare providers who are in FFL’s service area.  Any exceptions must be approved by a member of the FFL Leadership Team.
  • You must sign a Release of Liability, a Confidentiality Agreement for patient information, and provide emergency contact information
  • You may schedule for a minimum of four hours and a maximum of eight hours
  • Photo Identification
  • Money for meals or bag lunch
  • Please wear your department issued uniform or pants with a long- or short-sleeved shirt (NO JEANS)
  • Close toed shoes (no flip-flops or open-toed shoes)
  • DO NOT BRING weapons of any kind, including knives
  • There will be down time so please bring something to do while waiting for a flight (computer access is limited to FFL personnel only/guest WIFI is accessible via your laptop/device)

Request a Training/ Community Event

These programs are designed to provide an observational learning experience for individuals in fields related to Healthcare and Emergency Services and the general public.

Our crew members love telling our story. If you have a community group or event and would like a member of the Flight For Life team to attend as a speaker, please complete the request form. These presentations typically do not involve the aircraft and would be subject to crew member availability.

We offer tours at all of our bases for community groups interested in learning about the daily operations of Flight For Life. Tours last a maximum of 60 minutes and require walking and standing for the majority of the tour.  If the crew receives a flight request, all participants must exit the premises immediately so preflight procedures can occur without interruption. You are responsible for contacting all members of your group in the event of a cancellation.

If your community event is hosted by your local fire department or EMS agency, we want to attend! Our on-duty crew will arrive at the site of your event and land at the designated landing area.   Upon arrival, the crew will be available for a maximum of 1 hour before returning to base.  If the aircraft does receive a call for service before/during your event, our arrival may be delayed/cancelled.
We offer landing zone training for local Fire/EMS agencies and recommend that departments complete this training every 2 years. A representative of Flight For Life will conduct the LZ training with your department and then assist as you prepare for the aircraft’s arrival.
We participate in drills and exercises throughout the year in several different capacities. If you have a drill/exercise scheduled and would like to include Flight For Life.
